Today's my first birthday without you, Mom. It feels awful, especially when I remember that I was with you on my last birthday. All I can do is hang on desperately to my memories of you, but you can't hug a memory. I miss you dreadfully every day; it's no better now than it was the day you rejoined Dad. I'll always love you, Mom. You were the best.

I used to call everyday. Dad would answer the phone and yell over to you “It's Rosemary AGAIN”. Then Dad was gone, but I could still call you. We could talk about Downton Abbey or NCIS. Then the day came when you didn't know what I was talking about or how to use the phone. I could visit. You may have thought I was your older sister, but you knew I was someone who loved you.
I didn't know when the doctor said we should have you taken to the hospice so the Hope Pace doctors could take care of your infection, that you would never be wheeling yourself around again.
I miss my mother.
I remember holding your hand when we walked through the sparkling new snow on our way to pick up a Christmas present for Bonnie for the Williams family party. I remember the Cisco Kid calling you sweetheart.
I remember the great Christmas dinners even though I never could get the pierogi just right.
I know that you're with Dad and Johnny now, and you can run and climb mountains again. I'm happy for you, but I love you and I miss seeing you.

Thought this would be easier by now. Over 6 weeks has gone by since that morning and it still feels like that same day.
Every time I think of the memories we shared my heart breaks a little more again. A memory as simple as seeing you come out from your nap and walking into the living room with a smile on your face brings a smile to mine but pain to my heart.
I feel like we were robbed. Maybe I'm a little greedy. I had you for 34 years many aren't that lucky. You've always been my favorite person in the world and that will never change. Not a day has gone by where I didn't think of a memory you created for us. I hope not a day ever will but I do hope one day this pain does go away.

How can I take five minutes and try to describe to you or to anyone how wonderful my Mom was?

I can't. No one could.

Should I speak of her amazing courage and endurance during World War II, when her courage and her anger enabled her to endure 2 ½ years as slave labor to the Nazis? How can I possibly understand, let alone describe that? She had to face more danger and show more courage in those 2 ½ years than most of us will ever need to show in our entire lives.

All of you gathered here today who had the privilege of knowing her loved her in different ways – as an exemplary Catholic Christian woman, as a role model and hero, as a woman of infinite love and devotion, as one-half of a marriage as perfect as imperfect humanity can produce. Her children see her without exception as the only Mom we would ever have hoped to have. Not only do we know of no better, we deny the possibility. When our Dad fell in love with Mom, he made both the best and the easiest decision he ever made. If he were here I know he'd confirm that. Many of us here know that.

My cousin Florence once told me that whenever she thought of Uncle David and Aunt Marie, the first thing she thought of was the love in their eyes every time they looked at each other. It was a wonderful thing to see, and I will treasure the memory forever.

What I consider particularly touching is the way Mom's grandchildren speak of Gramma. None of them have a single bad memory with her. Her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was absolute, lavish and everlasting. I'm sure she loves them now, looking down from Heaven. Mom's passing has been particularly hard on them, and many tears have been shed. One of her grandchildren told me that she had to keep wiping the tears from her phone as she posted her tribute to her Gramma on the funeral home's web page. All of them – all of us – knew her boundless love and tried to return it as best we could.

Mom once sent me a photo of herself with the flowers I had sent her from New York, so that I could see what I had paid for. Mom seemed to have a photographic memory – she remembered every photo. She described herself as appearing “sick and washed-out” in that one. I told her “You know you're always beautiful to me, Mommy.” She replied “Thank you, Davvy.”

Mom, you were always beautiful to me, and to everyone who knew you and loved you. We love you and we miss you, and we long for the day when we will see you again.

Missing you pretty bad these days. Distractions have finally ran out and now i have to try and deal with the fact that ill never see you again and I dont want to! I'm not ready! You two were the foundation of my whole life and dont know how to keep going without you being here. I miss grandpa so much more now that youre gone too. I still felt him here with you, but the last piece of him left when you did. There's such an empty place im my heart now. I hope you know how important you are and always will be to me. I love and miss you

I might have not seen her as much as her other grand children but when I did it was like I never left. Her and Grandpa's warmth and caring presence was something I could always look forward too. From her loving but stern way of saying "eat it" when I said I was too full to finish my dinner to the way she always knew what to say when she saw I was upset. Her and Grandpa were truly the best couple and best grand parents a person could be honored to have. They trusted me when no one would and allowed me to go to College to sign for my loans, they even allowed their grandson and three of his friends to stay with them during college spring break.
That's just one of the ever ending examples of how truly awesome they were. I am honored to have called her my grandmother she was truly one of a kind and I will miss her for as long as I live.

Dear Grandma
Words can't express the love you showed all of us. I was lucky to have gotten to know you to experience your love and gratitude for 29 years. Now I have a lifetime of memories and if my impatient self would let me a lifetime of looking forward to seeing you and Grandpa. You will always be in my heart.
Love always and forever

droga babciu
Mimo że lata spędzone razem były niewiele, a razem były mniej niż byśmy chcieli, wspomnienia zawsze będą trwać całe życie. Pamiętam odwiedzanie ciebie i dziadka na kilka godzin. Spędzając noc tam z michelle i sarah. Są ulubionym okresem roku polskiego bożego Narodzenia. Kiedy chłopaki zabrali mnie do świata disneyów.

Maria , Mom as I called her was the best mother-in law a person could have. She was funny and kind and she would put me in my place at times. Actually she intimidated me at times , all 5'1" of her. I remember making pierogi's with her. She was one strong woman to the end and I really admired and loved her.

Grandma i miss you so much that i cant breathe. You're in every cherished memory that i have. How is it possible that i will never see you again? You were always my hero, so strong so brave and still so gentle and warm. I want to remember every story you ever told me i want to hear them again just one more time, always thought there'd be more time. Never pictured life without you and grandpa it didn't seem possible. I have always said you and grandpa were the most perfect people God ever made, and now youre both gone. I always hated when you left...not sure how we'll manage without you we are all so lost. The only thing that helps is knowing youre with Grandpa again. I know he was waiting for you. I just hope we can make you both proud. Miss you and love you both so very much. Your Michelle

I'm not sure I can put into words how much you meant to me and your family. So many of my greatest childhood memories came from you and grandpa. The trips to Disney or North Carolina or Niagara Falls. The weeks at High Point or even just quiet meals at your table. The countless nights I spent with you at your house. The laughter and the tears.

You were there when I was born and the person you were helped shape the person I became. I admired the person you were, your strength and courage, your warmth and laughter. If I am half as strong, half as warm or have just a fraction of your bravery then I think I'll do ok.

Loosing you hurts more than I can hardly stand right now and I hope you knew just how much we all loved you. What I wouldn't give for one more hug or the sound of your voice one more time. One more night at your house with you and grandpa or just one more quiet dinner. One more happy birthday, one more Merry Christmas or even just one more hiya.

We miss you more than anything and while our hearts are breaking it makes us happy that you're with grandpa right now and that you get to spend time with Johnny or have your mother hug you again.

I don't know how life will be moving forward without you but one things for sure, our lives will never be the same. Give grandpa a hug for us.

Until we meet again
