Robert George Brickley, age 73, of Cape Coral, FL died Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Hope Hospice House.  Born August 23, 1946 in Oceanside, NY to parents;  Rev. Donald and Phyllis Brickley.  The family including his younger sister, Donna Brickley, resided most of their years together in Quincy, MA.  Married June 22, 1968 to Joyce Marie Sickel in Wollaston, MA. They had two children, a daughter Elizabeth in 1969 and son John in 1970.

Robert graduated from Quincy High School in 1965.  Continued on to Eastern Nazarene College where he completed a Bachelor’s in Education.  After 12 years of teaching in Weymouth, MA. he and his wife took a short respite to open, The Plymouth Tea House, a quaint restaurant overlooking Plymouth Harbor.  From there he went on to teach another 6 years in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas where he launched a gifted and talented program for the school district.  During his time in Texas, he  also completed a Master’s Degree in Education from The University of Texas.

In 1990, upon becoming empty nesters the couple began teaching for the Department of Defense on a military base in Germany.  There, Robert,  first became enthralled with The Odyssey of the Mind  student competitions.   It was his great joy to lead and organize competitions in the Eastern European countries of Lithuania and Poland.  After 6 years, the couple were transferred to Sicily, Italy for their last 12 years of teaching at Sigonella Naval Air Base.  They were richly blessed with many opportunities to travel and soak up the beauty of the Mediterranean countryside.  One particular enjoyment for Robert was driving his Alpha Romeo Spider along the slopes of Mt. Etna near their home.   Friends and relationships made were truly a blessing as these years were at times lonely being so far from family in the states.

St. Augustine, FL became his home when the couple retired in 2007.  Being a true history buff made the Oldest City in the US a perfect destination for Robert.  He and his wife also enjoyed time in both Texas and Oklahoma enjoying  their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his loving parents, Rev. Donald and Phyllis Brickley. Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Joyce Brickley, and his sister, Donna Brickley, along with his daughter and husband, Lance and Elizabeth Pound, his son and wife, John and Sandra Brickley, granddaughter and husband, Kasey and Amanda O’Donnell, grandson and wife, Matthew and Brittany Pound, granddaughter, Melissa Pound, great grandchildren, Elam, Leah, and Addy O’Donnell.

A memorial service will be held at Harrah Church Of The Nazarene, 20775 North St., Harrah, OK, on February 29, 2020 at 2:00 pm.   In lieu of flowers please donate to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA) at 912 Killian Hill Road, SW Suite 205, Liburn, GA 30047 or www.lbda.org.
