Edward L Ashline

Edward (Eddie) Leon Ashline, age 94, died peacefully after a long illness on July 30, 2019 at Hope Care Hospice Center in Cape Coral, FL. He was living at Calusa Harbor in Ft. Myers, FL, for the past nine years where he was given excellent care and was loved by the staff. Even with his fight against Alzheimers, he maintained his sense of humor. He was born on August 6, 1924 in Burlington, VT to Edward L. Ashline and Gladys LaForce Ashline.
He attended St. Mary’s Catholic High School in St. Albans, VT and graduated in 1942. He proudly served his country in the Navy for 25 years during World War II and the Vietnam War. He was employed by several grocery companies over the years, Grand Union, IGA, Wettereau Food Co., and Super Value as a district supervisor.
He is survived by his two daughters, Patricia Hagadorn (John Hagadorn), of The Villages, FL, and Diane Rafuse (Richard Rafuse), of Ft. Myers, FL, his brother Dwynne Ashline (Rita Perrault), Goose Creek, SC, three grandchildren, Deron Hagadorn (Maria Naehle Hagadorn), of Concord, NC, Kelli Hagadorn, of Huntersville, NC, Kristi Hagadorn Garver (Andrew Garver), of Concord, NC, five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by the love of his life, Madeline Giroux Ashline after 63 years of devotion to each other, his sister, Theresa Tatro, his brothers, Cleon, Robert, Harold, Donald and his life long best friend and brother-in-law, Gaston Giroux.
He served as a Cub Master for the Boys Scouts of America for many years. All his life he was an active member of the Catholic Church beginning as an altar boy. During his last days, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Now we have the joy of knowing he is safely in the arms of our Lord in heaven. He was an active member of the Elks Club in Burlington, VT, volunteering to work at their many barbecues and banquets. His main enjoyment in life were times spent with his grandchildren. When they were young he was often found on the floor playing with them, and as they grew older, he was their loudest cheerleader at all their sporting events.
He retired over 30 years ago to North Ft. Myers, FL where he enjoyed a time of relaxing and socializing. His favorite activities were bowling and horse shoes at which he won several championship games.
He will receive a full military funeral service, which will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019 at St. Vincent DePaul, 13031 Palm Beach Blvd., Ft. Myers, FL, at 12:00 p.m. followed by internment at the Church property.
