Dorothy J. Hunt

Dorothy Hunt, 98, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away January 8, 2019 at 6:25 a.m. at Palmview Assisted Living in Cape Coral.

Dorothy was born in Harrisburg, Illinois, in 1920. She married her high school sweetheart, Kendall Hunt in 1941. He preceded her in death in 1993.

Mrs. Hunt and her husband owned Palm Lane Marina in Matlacha on Pine Island, Florida during the 1960s. Dotty worked at Precision National and the Credit Bureau in Mount Vernon, IL. After she retired, Dotty worked at the jewelry dept. at the Walmart in North Fort Myers, FL.

Dotty was a member of the West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, IL for many years, as well as Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Coral, FL. She also attended services at Gulf Coast Village in Cape Coral.

As a child, Dotty loved gymnastics. As an adult, Dotty was a daredevil! She loved riding rollercoasters- the higher, the better. For her 72nd birthday she did a swan-dive bungee jump. She tried parasailing. She rode horses with her granddaughter. She dreamed of parachuting out of an airplane. She filmed a commercial for Walmart. She served as an extra in the courtroom scene of the Sean Connery film, “Just Cause”. Dotty was fearless!

Solving wordscrambles and wordsearches were her favorite pastimes. She also enjoyed being quizzed on the multiplication tables.

Dotty loved her family, especially her grandchildren. We all loved her homemade pizza, homemade doughnuts, Quick Cookies, Hello Dolly squares, Haystacks, and , of course, the special Texas Sheet Cake reserved for birthdays.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, T. Kendall Hunt (Patty) of Zurich, Switzerland; James A. Hunt of North Fort Myers, Florida ; Kevin Hunt (Jacque) of Newport, Washington; one daughter, Susan Laffitte (Oscar) of Cape Coral, Florida; daughter-in-law Prudy Hunt; seven grandchildren: Thomas K. Hunt, Jr., Todd Hunt, Celeste Hunt (Catherine), James Hunt, II.; Krista Bradshaw (Ryan ); Jeremy Hunt (Jenifer) ; Abby Hunt; six great-grandchildren: Madison Hunt , Marisa Hunt, Tate Zook, and Isaiah Bradshaw; Lilyanne Hunt, Hannah Hunt, as well as one sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Donald, and two daughter-in-laws.

A memorial service is being conducted Friday February 8th 2019 at Fuller Metz Funeral Home beginning at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fort Myers, FL.

In lieu of flowers, for those wishing, memorials may be made to the Gulf Coast Village employee appreciation fund.
